Editorial Lead

We are hiring an Editorial Lead to oversee our writing and editing projects and to manage our large team of professional writers and editors.

This is a senior-level position in our company, replacing a current lead who is moving to another role within the company.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assign writers, editors, and print production professionals to projects. Track the schedules for each resource, and know each person’s skill set.
  • Maintain and track employee and contractor project loads.
  • Manage employees: includes providing feedback on their work, handling issues, and conducting performance reviews.
  • Hire new Independent Contractors, including recruiting, interviewing, and writing the contract and filling out the appropriate paperwork.
  • Recruit editors and writers to keep the talent pool full.
  • Interview candidates and assess their level of ability and fit with the company.
  • Oversee writing and editing projects: resource the project, oversee the budget, maintain client relationships, and serve as the escalation point for the project.
  • Write proposals and estimates for new work. Negotiate prices on projects within profitability business model guidelines and goals.
  • Maintaining communication with the client, overseeing the budget, checking in on the project, and serving as an escalation point for the project managers.
  • Manage selected projects as needed.
Skills Required
  • Experience managing a team of writers and editors across multiple Web and print projects
  • Substantive experience as a developmental editor of technical and consumer content
  • Substantive scheduling and budgeting experience
  • Substantive project management experience, including integration with business-side requirements, processes, and tools
  • Substantive experience estimating projects and creating proposals
  • Good communication skills and client interaction

Web developer

Resources Online (www.ronline.com) is looking for Web developers, preferably with substantive recent experience at Microsoft. We're particularly interested in producers who have MNP and MSTP experience, and in general who have know the relevant tools, platforms, and processes. We engage in customer-facing and internal content projects across the company. We are also a leader in new platform adoption.

IMPORTANT: This position is for a true software developer who additionally has web skills. It is NOT for a Web producer who knows some software development. If you fit this description, you are welcome to contact us; if not, please see our other job descriptions (such as "Web Producer").

Web Project Manager

We are seeking managers for Web content projects.

Requirements
  • Web production management experience, including hands-on management and/or experience in coding or Information Architecture.
  • Understanding of structured content.
  • Proficiency in CSS, HTML, DHTML, ASP.NET, and Flash.
  • Experience with SharePoint.
  • Experience working with Product Studio.
  • Familiarity with Photoshop and Visio.
  • Demonstrated expertise with project management tools, including Microsoft Project and Microsoft Excel.
  • Proven project management experience: you must be organized, detail-oriented, take initiative, and able to work well with a virtual team. Your project management experience should be hands-on, meaning you must have a complete understanding of all the roles and processes in a Web content project.
  • Experience in gathering requirements, strategizing with the client, and creating a project scope and plan.
  • Experience in managing a project within a set budget and timeline.
  • Ability to review editorial and design content for quality assurance and client needs.
  • Strong client interaction skills. Ability to form positive relationships with the client and respond quickly to their needs.

We are looking for a person with substantive recent experience (~2 years or more) at Microsoft as an FTE, contractor, or vendor in a project manager/content production/Web production role who has familiarity with relevant tools, platforms, and processes.

You must have experience working with and managing teams that may include Web producers, IA, UI, and content experts; clients; media producers.

Excellent communication and client relations skills are a must.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously without getting all freaked out.

Information Architect / UX designer

Designer - Web UI

Resources Online is a busy Web production company seeking a Web Designer to work on diverse, high-visibility projects for industry leading companies. We need someone who likes to conceptualize at a high-level some days and push pixels on other days, and works well being their own art director. Our clients include Microsoft, Adobe, and LexisNexis.

Requirements
  • Portfolio pieces that demonstrate a keen eye for design, distinctive creativity, and an understanding of core design principles.
  • Proficiency in creating graphics that pop, including page art, marketing heroes, banner ads, and full-on integrated Web site designs.
  • Experience with Flash-based design; Flash showing built-in dynamic functionality is a plus. SilverLight is worthy of a major plus.
  • Expert Photoshop user. Excellent with page building apps such as Dreamweaver. Proficient with tools like Flash, Illustrator, and Fireworks.
  • Experience cutting and prepping graphics for Web use.
  • Able to rapidly transfer design to well-formed Web pages is a plus. Tableless Web page-building is big plus.
  • Ability and skill in scripting and applying CSS wows us.
  • Excellent client interaction skills are a must; grok it, concept it, and respond to feedback.

  • Seasoned working under tight deadlines and on multiple projects simultaneously.
